Abstract:Objective:To explore the role of insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1)in the development of diabetic nephropathy(DN)in diabetes mellitus(DM)rats.Methods:Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal con...Objective:To explore the role of insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1)in the development of diabetic nephropathy(DN)in diabetes mellitus(DM)rats.Methods:Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control group and experimental group.The experimental group rats were induced by injected intraperitoneally with streptozotocin(STZ).At 6,10,14 weeks,fast blood glucose(FBG),serum IGF-1,fast blood insulin were measured,and 24h urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER)was observed;the pathological changes of kidney were examined using light microscope and electron microscope.The computerized image processing was employed to glomerular basement membrane(GBM)thickness.Renal expression of IGF-1 was determined by immunohistoehemistry.Results:Compared with the control group,diabetic rats expressed more urinary albumin excretion(P0.01);the pathohistological study revealed that there was thicker GBM in diabetic rats(P0.01);the immunohistochemistry showed that the IDF of IGF-1 was much higher than control group,then they decreased continually during the whole experiment.Conclusion:IGF-1 may play a protective role in the progression of DN.Read More
