METHODS: The 80 patients with vascular dementia were randomly divided into 2 groups. Nicergoline group of 42 patients (M 28,F14,age 68±s 7 a) received nicergoline 10 mg, po, tid, for 8 wk. Piracetam group of 38 patients (M 26, F 12, age 68±8 a) received piracetam 1.2 g, po, tid, for 8 wk. RESULTS:The total effective rates were 79% in nicergoline group and 55% in piracetam group(P0.05).The memory quotient(MQ) and HDS (Hastgawa Dementia scale) in nicergoline group were 12±11 and 7±6, respectively, in piracetam group were 5±8 and 4±4, respectively (P0.05).No adverse reactions were found.CONCLUSION: The therapeutic effects of nicergoline is superior to piracetam in treating vascular dementia.Read More
