Abstract:Dialects in Zhumadian has the following characteristics.First,based on the combination betweenall the sounds of the medieval Zhi(知) and Zhao(照) groups and the Hong(洪音) sound of the Jing(精) group,the p...Dialects in Zhumadian has the following characteristics.First,based on the combination betweenall the sounds of the medieval Zhi(知) and Zhao(照) groups and the Hong(洪音) sound of the Jing(精) group,the phonological sounds are pronounced as alveolar fricative and affricate.Second,when attached the suffixation of a non-syllabic r,the alveolar fricatives and affricates are transformed into retro-flexes.Third,there is nodistinction between Jianyin(尖音) and Tuanyin(团音).In the Rusheng(入声),one of the four tones in classical Chinese pronunciation,the medieval unvoiced initial consonants are generally uttered in Yinping(阴平) today,that is,the high and level tone of modern standard Chinese pronunciation,while the medieval voiced sounds inYangping(阳平) today,that is,the rising tone of the four tones in modern standard Chinese pronunciation.Fourth,the medieval Tongshe Sandeng(通摄三等) sounds are generally pronounced as Xi Yin(细音).Read More
