Abstract:The phonological features of the Yuyao Dialect is revealed in its tones and combination mode.Initial consonant features: Three distinctive sets of the Chinese characters 帮滂並,端透定and见溪群now remain in Yuy...The phonological features of the Yuyao Dialect is revealed in its tones and combination mode.Initial consonant features: Three distinctive sets of the Chinese characters 帮滂並,端透定and见溪群now remain in Yuyao's initial consonants,in which 从澄崇船禅日文读 are pronounced with a mixed initial of [dz] and [z],匣母逢遇摄模 are pronounced with an initial of [v].Compound vowel features: 遇合三鱼虞韵知庄章日组字 are pronounced with an apical final.臻曾两摄 舒声一(except 合口见) are mixed with 深臻曾梗三四 while being pronounced.通合三 and 臻合三见 with an entering tone are pieced together while being pronounced with a fine sound.Intonation features: The characters with a voiced initial in a level tone,rising tone or falling tone are pieced together in the Yuyao dialect.There exist some regularities in their piecing process.Read More
