Title: Risk Factors for Postoperative Recurrence and Metastasis following Radical Resection of Colon Cancer
Abstract: Purpose To investigate the clinicopathologic factors related to recurrence and metastasis of colon cancer after radical resection. Methods The clinicopathologic and follow-up data of 446 cases with colon cancer, treated with radical resection from Jan.1994 to Jan.2004 were analyzed by Cox analysis retrospectively. Results The overall recurrence and metastasis rate was 19.28%.Univariate analysis showed that duration from onset to surgery, preoperative serum CEA,histological differentiation,Dukes'stage and lymph node involvement were correlated to recurrence and metastasis in colon cancer.Multivariate analysis showed that lymph node involvement, histological differentiation and preoperative serum CEA were risk factors of recurrence and metastasis. Conclusion Lymph node involvement, histological differentiation and preoperative serum CEA are important prognostic factors with recurrence and metastasis in colon cancer after radical resection.
