Title: Study on the correlation of colorectal clinicopathological characteristics with recurrence and metastasis
Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinicopathological factors correlated with postoperative recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer. Methods The cases with or without recurrence and metastasis after curative resection for colorectal cancer were analyzed. Univariant and multivariant logistic regression analyses were used to examine the association of the clinicopathological factors with recurrence and metastasis. Results The clinicopathological factors included sex, age, tumor location, tumor malignant degree,Dukes stage, micro vein invasion, detection of disseminated tumor cells in ascites or peritoneal lavage and serum CEA level. Multivariant logistic regression revealed that only Dukes stage was related with recurrence(P=0.004),and Dukes stage(P=0.001),positive micro vein invasion(P=0.020) and serum CEA level(P=0.010) were related with metastasis. As for the cases with Dukes C stage, the proportion of poorly differentiated and mucous adenocarcinoma was significantly higher in recurrent and metastasis group than that in the control group. Conclusions Dukes stage is related with both recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer. The pathologic types of poorly differentiated and mucous adenocarcinomas are related with recurrence in the patients with Dukes C colorectal cancer. Positive micro vein invasion and serum CEA level are related with metastasis.
