Title: CHARACTER AND IMPORTANCE OF THE STRATEGIC HIGHWAY RESEARCH PROGRAMME--SHRP
Abstract: Since the AASHTO road test was completed in 1962, the Strategic Highway Research Programme (SHRP) is one of the most comprehensive research programmes in the field of highways, in particular of pavements and other road structures. The programme is scheduled to be completed within five years, i.e. from 1988 to 1992. The SHRP programme counts on international cooperation worldwide, and deals with two types of activities: a) adequate exchange of results obtained from any SHRP research projects or other findings, and b) cooperation of different foreign research organizations or agencies on SHRP projects. The aim of the SHRP projects is to ensure the quality of pavements and other road structures so that they will have longer service life. (TRRL)
