Abstract: The AASHTO Task Force on SHRP Implementation is charged with helping accelerate the adoption of SHRP products nationwide. One of its principal initiatives is the Lead State Program, which is designed to ensure highway agencies throughout the county have the opportunity to benefit from the practical, real-world experience gained by early adopters of SHRP technologies. A Lead State is a transportation agency that, together with its suppliers and industry, has gained sufficient experience with a SHRP technology and its procedures to then share this expertise with other agencies. The Lead State Program is concentrating in seven technology areas: superpave systems, high-performance concrete, anti-icing/road weather information systems, innovative pavement maintenance materials, preventive maintenance, assessment, repair, protection, rehabilitation of reinforced concrete structures, and alkali-silica reactivity. The Task Force is also encouraging states to support the Superpave regional centers and long-term pavement performance studies.
