Title: Expressions of VEGF and Ang-2 in laryngeal carcinoma and their significance
Abstract: Objective:To investigate their possible relationships to biological behavior and clinicopathological characteristics in laryngeal carcinoma by detecting the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and Ang-2 in laryngeal carcinoma. Methods:S-P immunohistochemical staining was used to examine the expressions of VEGF and Ang-2 in 84 laryngeal carcinoma and 5 vocal cord polyps(VCP) and 5 atypical hyperplasia tissues. The relationships among the expressions of VEGF and Ang-2 in laryngeal carcinoma and clinical pathologic characteristics were analyzed by statistical methods. Results:The total expression of VEGF was 70.2% in laryngeal carcinoma. The expression had a difference in differentiated degrees of laryngeal carcinoma(χ2=17.323, P0.05).And there was a significant difference in the expression of different stages(χ2=11.489, P0.05).The rate of the expression of VEGF in tissues with lymphatic metastasis and in that without lymphatic metastasis was different, and their difference was significant(χ2=18.748, P0.05).The total expression of Ang-2 was 51.2%(47/84) in laryngeal carcinoma. The percentage of Ang-2 was 38.8%(19/49), 68.8%(22/32) and 100%(3/3) in well-differentiated, moderately-differentiated and poorly-differentiated. The expression had a difference between differentiated degrees of laryngeal carcinoma(χ2=23.330, P0.05). The rate of the expression of Ang-2 in tissues with lymphatic metastasis and in that without lymphatic metastasis was 78.6%(11/14)and 48.6%(34/70),and their difference was significant(χ2=14.880, P0.05). Conclusions: The expression of Ang-2 was positively correlated with VEGF, which suggests that they may facilitate the development of laryngeal carcinoma. Combined analysis of these two proteins might be useful both in the disclosure of the mechanism of the occurrence and development of laryngeal carcinoma.
