Title: The role of serum homocysteine, folate and vitamin B12 in stroke patients
Abstract: Objective:To investigate the correlation between serum homocysteine(Hcy) levels and stroke, and the changes of serum folic acid(FA),vitamin B12(VitB12) levels in stroke patients. Methods: Patients with stroke(72 cases of cerebral infarction,49 cases of cerebral hemorrhage)and 60 healthy people as control group were enrolled to detect the levels of Hcy,FA and VitB12 and carried out the correlation analysis. In addition, the levels of Hcy,FA and VitB12 were observed in forty-eight Hcy-increase cases before and after treatment, then the correlation analysis was conducted. Results: Hcy level was significantly higher in stroke patients than that in control group(P0.01),while the levels of FA and VitB12 were on the contrary(P0.01).The levels of Hcy,FA and VitB12 had no difference between cerebral infarction group and cerebral hemorrhage group(P0.05),but showed statistical difference in Hcy-increase patients before and after treatment(P0.01).Conclusion: The increase of serum Hcy is closely related to stroke,it may be influenced by the levels of serum FA and VitB12.
