Title: Numerical Simulation of Long Rod Steel Projectile Penetrating into Moderately Thick Targets
Abstract: In this paper, the long rod projectile penetrating into moderately thick targets is simulated by the dynamic finite element analysis software LS-DYNA. The materials are modeled with the Johnson-Cook dynamic constitutive relationship. The process of deformation and the stress propagation in both projectile and target are obtained. In addition, the interface forces acted on the projectile are given. It is demonstrated that the numerical results correspond well to previous experimental observations.
