Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of smoking on pulmonary functions.Methods Data of the pulmonary functions from the study and control groups were compared.Cases in this study group were referred to ad...Objective To explore the effects of smoking on pulmonary functions.Methods Data of the pulmonary functions from the study and control groups were compared.Cases in this study group were referred to adult smokers without any respiratory symptoms,while controls were selected by age ±2 years,and body mass index(BMI) ±5% to have a paired design.Results There were 111 subjects in the study and control groups respectively.Results of FEV1%,MVV%,MMEF% and V25% decreased significantly in the study group than those of controls,but there were little difference in FEV1/FVC,PEF%,V75%,V50%,VC%,RV/TLC,DLCO%,Raw% and sGaw%.Conclusion Smoking has a harmful effect on the smokers' ventilatory function,ventilatory reserve,and increases the resistance of small airways.Read More
