Abstract:[Objective] This study is to investigate the effects of cigarette smoking on lung function and to urge smokers to give up smoking as early as possible.[Methods] One hundred fifty-one healthy adults,wh...[Objective] This study is to investigate the effects of cigarette smoking on lung function and to urge smokers to give up smoking as early as possible.[Methods] One hundred fifty-one healthy adults,who took physical examination at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University,took the pulmonary function testing by MedGraphics 1085D spirometer.And the effects of cigarette smoking on lung function were analyzed.[Results] No significant difference(P0.05) was found between nonsmokers and smokers in two indexes,FVC(forced vital capacity) and FEV1(forced expiratory volume in 1 second).But there was significant difference between nonsmokers and smokers in indexes such as lung capacity-VC(vital capacity),FEV1/VC and some pulmonary ventilatory function indicants,MVV(maximal voluntary ventilation) and FEV1/FVC(P0.05).The indexes of the small airway function(FEF50%,FEF75%,MMEF) had significantly dropped(P0.01).[Conclusion] Although smokers have not shown clinical symptoms,their lung functions,especially small airway function had already been impaired,compared to nonsmokers.Pulmonary function test was significant for asymptomatic smokers.Read More
