Title: Expression of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor(EGFR) in Gastric Cancer and Esophageal Cancer and Its Clinical Significance
Abstract: Objective:To study the expression of EGFR and its clinical significance in gastrointestinal carcinoma, especially in gastric cancer. Methods: The expression of EGFR was qualitatively investigated by SABC immunohistochemical technique in gastric cancer, esophageal cancer and colorectal cancer. To explore its clinopathological correlation and its clinical significance. Results: (1)The positive rate of EGFR expression was 23.08% in benign group. The expression of EGFR was significantly lower in benign group than that in malignant tumor group.(2)The positive rate of EGFR expression was 49.09% in gastric cancer, 65.00% in esophageal cancer, 56.25% in colorectal cancer, respectively. There was no significant difference statistically (P0 05).(3)The expression of EGFR was independent of sex, age, position of tumor and growth style in gastric cancer. Meanwhile, there was no significant relation to histological types and cell differentiation of tumor in gastric cancer (P0.05). And (4) the expression of EGFR correlated with the clinical stages, serosal infiltration and metastasis perigastric lymph nodes in gastric cancer (P0 05). Conclusion: These data suggest that detection of EGFR would be of benefit in reflecting the malignant degree, indicating lymph node metastasis, guiding treatment and evaluating tumor prognosis.
