Title: Correlation of E-cadherin and EGFR Expression with Invasion and Metastasis in Stomach Carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To study the relation between the expression of E-cadherin(E-cad),EGFR and the metastasis, the invasion of stomach carcinoma. Methods E-cad and EGFR were detected by immunohistochemical staining and in situ hybridization in 50 cases of stomach cancer tissue. Results The positive expression rates of E-cad and EGFR were 32.0%(16/50) and 76.0%(38/50) respectively. The positive expression rates of E-cadmRNA and EGFR mRNA were 38.0%(19/50) and 86.0%(43/50) respectively. The expression of E-cad was significantly lower in stomach carcinoam than in normal stomach mucosa and in atypical hyperplasia mucosa, while the expression of EGFR was significantly higher than that in normal stomach mucosa and in atypical hyperplasia mucosa.Low expression of E-cad and high expression of EGFR were closely associated with stomach carcinoma differentiation,TNM stages, lymphatic nodes metastases and survival time(P0.01),but had no relation to the gender and the size of tumour(P0.05).The expression of E-cad and EGFR had a negative relation in stomach cancer(P0.05).Conclusion The expression of E-cad and EGFR were closely associated with metastasis and invasion of the stomach carcinoma.Detection of the expression of E-cad,EGFR protein and the mRNA in stomach cancer might served as important prognostic predictors.
