Title: Carcinoma showing thymus-like differentiation of the thyroid:a clinicopathological observation
Abstract: Objective:To investigate the clinicopathological features of carcinoma showing thymus-like differentiation(CASTLE) of thyroid and its diferential diagnosis.Methods: The clinical and pathological characteristics were studied by hematoxylin and eosin stain and immunohistochemical techniques in 1 case of carcinoma showing thymus-like differentiation of the thyroid.Results: The irregular tumor was located at inferior pole of the thyroid.It was well-demarcated and appeared grayish-white on cut surface.The major clinical manifestations were fixed movement and painless mass at thyroid and dyspnea.Microscopically,the large tumor cells were polygonal or oval shape with vesicular karyon and distinct nucleoli,the tumor cells were arranged in sheets,strips and islands,mature lymphocytes,plasma cells and fibrous tissues in the stroma.Immunohistochemi cally,the tumor was positive for CD5,CD117 and CK.Conclusion: CASTLE is a rare type of thyroid carcinoma with distinctive morphologic features.The diagnosis depends on the histology and Immunohistochemistry.It's main treatment is complete resection
