Title: Expression and clinical significance of COX-2 and Survivin in laryngeal carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of COX-2 and Survivin in laryngeal carcinoma. Methods The expression of COX-2 and Survivin in 65 specimens of laryngeal carcinoma and 34 biopsies of adjacent noncancerous tissue was detected with immunohistochemical technique(SP method),and the relationship between the expression and clinical pathological parameters and prognosis was analyzed. Results The expression of COX-2 and Survivin in laryngeal carcinoma tissue was higher than that in adjacent noncancerous tissue(P0.05).The positive expression of COX-2 and Survivin was not correlated with age, course, smoking, drinking, pathologic grade, and clinical type(P0.05).In laryngeal carcinoma, the expression of COX-2 was correlated with T and clinical stage(P0.05),and that of Survivin was correlated with clinical stage and lymph node metastasis(P0.05).Moreover,the expression of COX-2 and Survivin was positively correlated(P0.05).Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that the patients with positive expression of COX-2 and Survivin had lower disease-free survival rate and overall survival rate than those with negative expression(P0.05).Cox regression analysis showed that COX-2 was not an independent prognostic factor for survival of patients with laryngeal carcinoma, but Survivin was. Conclusion The specific up-regulation expression of COX-2 and Survivin exists in laryngeal carcinoma tissue, which suggests that they may play an important role in the process of carcinogenesis and may be indentified as early diagnostic markers and potential therapeutic targets in laryngeal carcinoma.
