Title: The relationship between expression of VEGF with tumor proliferation and angiogenesis in human gliomas
Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between expression of vascular endothelia growth factor (VEGF) with tumor proliferation and angiogenesis in human gliomas. Methods Immunohistochemical technique and morphological quantitative analysis was used to detect the expression of VEGF,microvessel density (MVD),PCNA labelling index (PCNA LI) in 98 gliomas. Results (1) Positive staining for VEGF was found in most gliomas. The tumor and vascular endothelial cells both expressed VEGF.The positive particles were mainly distributed in tumor cytoplasm.(2) In the astrocytic tumors, the higher the tumor grade, the stronger it expressed PCNA LI and the larger the MVD was found(P0.05);the PCNA LI and MVD in VEGF positive tumors were significantly higher than those in VEGF negative tumors(P0.05).(3) In the astrocytic tumors, the expression of VEGF in vascular endothelial cells increased with the increase of MVD.It showed positive relativity between the expression of VEGF in vascular endothelial cells to MVD (P0.01).Conclusion The expression of VEGF in human glioma has relationship to its MVD,and it might play an important role in tumor proliferation and angiogenesis.
