Abstract:This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of rosiglitazone(ROS) on intestinal morphology and antioxidant ability in weaned pigs after Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide(LPS) challenge.Pig...This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of rosiglitazone(ROS) on intestinal morphology and antioxidant ability in weaned pigs after Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide(LPS) challenge.Piglets were allotted to three treatments including:control group;LPS-challenged group(LPS);ROS + LPS group(ROS).Pigs were injected with 100 μg/kg BW of LPS or sterile saline.ROS or its vehicle was given 30 min before LPS injection.At 3 h following injection of LPS,pigs were sacrificed and small intestin samples were collected.The results showed that ROS increased DNA content in duodenum and ileum(P 0.05) compared to LPS pigs.ROS alleviated LPS-induced intestinal morphology disorder,which was manifested as lower crypt depth(P 0.10) and higher villus height:crypt depth ratio(P 0.01) in duodenum,jejunum and ileum.ROS decreased malonaldehyde content in jejunum(P 0.10),and increased SOD activity in duodenum and jejunum(P 0.05).These results indicated that ROS has beneficial effects in alleviating intestinal morphology damage induced by LPS challenge,which may be associated with increasing intestinal mucosal antioxidant ability.Read More
