Title: Observations on the Therapeutic Effect of Point-through-point Acupuncture plus Chinese Herbal Medicine on Intractable Hiccup
Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of combined use of point-through-point acupuncture plus current pulse and Chinese herbal medicine in treating intractable hiccup in tumor patients. Methods One hundred and forty-one tumor patients were randomly allocated to a treatment group of 74 cases and a control group of 67 cases. The treatment group was treated by combined use of point-through-point acupuncture plus current pulse and Chinese herbal medicine and the control group, by Western drug placebo for antispasm. Both were treated for 5 times. The clinical therapeutic effects were evaluated afterward.A follow-up was performed 15 days later to see if there was a recurrence. Results A comparison between the two groups after the completion of treatment course showed that the clinical cure rate and the total efficacy rate were obviously higher in the treatment group than in the control group;there were statistically significant differences(P0.01,P0.025).Conclusion Combined use of point-through-point acupuncture plus current pulse and Chinese herbal medicine is an effective way to treat intractable hiccup in tumor patients.
