Title: Observations on the Efficacy of Acupuncture and Moxibustion plus Herbal Medicine in Treating Diabetic Neurogenic Bladder
Abstract: Objective To investigate the efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion plus herbal medicine in treating diabetic neurogenic bladder.Methods Sixty patients were randomly allocated to an acupuncture plus medicine group of 30 cases and a medication group of 30 cases.Both groups underwent the same basic treatment.The acupuncture plus medicine group received acupuncture at points Guanyuan(CV4),Qihai(CV6),Shenshu(BL23),Pangguangshu(BL28),Shuidao(ST28),Zhongji (CV3) and Sanyinjiao(SP6) and took Chinese herbal medicine ′kidney-reinforcing decoction′(self-prepared),one dose a day.The medication group received intramuscular injection of Methycobal,500μg once a day and bladder training by regular micturition.Results The efficacy rate was 90.0% in the acupuncture plus medicine group and significantly higher than in the medication group(P0.05). The frequency of micturition and residual urine volume decreased more in the acupuncture plus medicine group than in the medication group.Conclusion Acupuncture and moxibustion plus Chinese herbal medicine is an effective way to treat diabetic neurogenic bladder.
