Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of nucleostemin gene(NS)in prostate cancer and its correlation with prostate specific antigen(PSA).Methods The expressions of nucleostemin mRNA and protein were...Objective To investigate the expression of nucleostemin gene(NS)in prostate cancer and its correlation with prostate specific antigen(PSA).Methods The expressions of nucleostemin mRNA and protein were measured by RT-PCR and immunohistochemical stain in 20 specimens of benign prostate hyperplasia and 45 specimens of prostate cancer,and the relation between their levels and serum PSA was analyzed.Results NS gene expression was detected in 36 specimens of prostate cancer(80.0%).The positive expression of NS gene was in 4,19,13 specimens of high,moderate,low grade of prostate cancer.The expression of nucleostemin gene was related significantly to the tumor grade(r=0.954,P0.05),and no significant relationship between nucleostemin expression and PSA was found(r=0.237,P0.05).Expression of nucleostemin gene was not detected in benign prostate hyperplasia tissues.Conclusion The expression of nucleostemin gene in prostate cancer is closely correlated with the grading of tumors and may serve as a marker in estimating the malignancy of prostate cancer.Read More
