Title: Expression and significance of Bcl-2 and Bag-1 in renal cell carcinoma
Abstract: AIM To investigate Bcl 2 and Bag 1 expressions in renal cell carcinomas and to evaluate their clinical significance. METHODS Bcl 2 and Bag 1 expressions were studied with immunohistochemstry Streptavidin Biotin Peroxidase Complex (SABC) methods in 41 samples of renal carcinoma tissues and in 10 normal renal tissues, and their clinical significance were analysed. RESULTS The positive rate of Bcl 2 expression in the renal carcinoma tissues was 75.6%, while it was 30.0% in the normal renal tissues ( P 0.05). Ac cordingly, the positive rate of Bag 1 expression in the carcinoma tissues was 61.0%, it was 10.0% in the normal tissues ( P 0.05). However, Bcl 2 was not related to the tumor grade, clinical stage and pathological cell types. On the other hand, Bag 1 was positively related to the tumor grade, tumor stage and the prognosis of the patient ( P 0.05). Significant correlation was noted between Bcl 2 and Bag 1 ( r = 0.438). CONCLUSION Bag 1 might serve as a prognostic maker for the renal cell carcinoma. Bcl 2 might be involved in the transformation of benign to malignant process but is not related to the degree of differentiation of the tumor cells.
