Title: Expression of Apoptosis Related Gene Bcl-2 and Bax in Liver Cell Carcinoma and Its Clinical Significances
Abstract: Objective To study the role and the prognostic effect of bcl-2 (an apoptosis suppressing oncogene) and bax(an apoptosis accelerating oncogene)in the development of liver cell carcinoma. Methods Bcl-2 and bax expression was investigated in 40 cases of liver cell carcinoma and 16 cases of normal liver tissue by immunohistochemistry LSAB method. Results The positive rates of bcl-2 and bax expression were 12 5 %and 87 5 % in normal liver tissue and 45 0 %and 52 5 % in liver cell carcinoma. The difference was of significance ( P 0 05).Bcl-2 and bax expression levels were associated with histological grade stages, lymph node metastasis and prognosis. Conclusion The increased expression of bcl-2 and decreased expression bax might be involved in the devetopment of liver cell carcinoma, and they might have a mutual effect on each other.Bcl-2 protein is an independent indicator of prognosis in liver cell carcinoma.
