Title: A Study on Protective Role of Butylphthalide on Blood-brain Barrier in Rats with Chronic Hypoperfusion
Abstract: Objective: To investigate the changes in permeability of blood-brain barrier(BBB) in rats with chronic hypoperfusion and the protective effect of butylphthalide on it.Methods: Rat models of chronic hypoperfusion were established by ligating the bilateral carotid arteries. One hundred and forty-four rats were randomly divided into control group, ischemic group and butylphthalide treatment group. At days 7,14,30 and 60 after operation, the permeability of BBB was evaluated by the Evans blue staining. Results: At day 7 the permeability of BBB of rats in ischemic group significantly increased compared with that in control group(P0.01) and butylphthalide treatment group(P0.05).At day 14 the permeability of BBB of rats in ischemic group significantly increased compared with that in both control group and butylphthalide treatment group(P0.05).There is no significant difference at day 30 and 60 among the three groups. Conclusion: The permeability of BBB is increased in rats with chronic hypoperfusion and butylphthalide could lessen the destruction of BBB.
