Title: OXYGEN CONSUMPTION RATE IN THE BONE MARROW OF RADIATION-INJURED GUINEA-PIGS AND DRY BONE MARROW INJECTION

The rate recovered, with linearity of elapsed time. Thus the rate was adopted as an index of radiation injury and recovery. When the dried powder made of bone marrow of young rabbits was injected in heavily irradiated guinea-pigs, a significant recovery in the rate resulted. The hemoglohin value, red blood cells, and white blood cells, however, remained on insufficient level. Both the O/sub 2/ consumption rate and hematological counts were considerably improved when the dry bone marrow or dry lymph tissue extracted from adult pigs was injected. When human dry leukocytes were injected in heavily irradiated guinea-pigs, no effect was obtained. (Abstr. Japan Med., 2: No. 5, May 1962).Read More
