Methods Under the local anesthesia, a scalp strip containing abundant hair follicle was harvested from the back of the head, closing to the posterior hairline. A series of follicular-unit micrografts with 1~3 hairs were then divided under surgical magnifier. Usually, 200~800 micrografts were needed for the anterior hairline reconstruction. After the micro-holes were prepared using an injective needle in the recipient site, the grafts were implanted by a dense-packing grafting technique into the holes, parallel to the original hair directions. Results Fifth-eight patients with a flatted anterior hairline were treated by the above-mentioned technique from Apr. 1998 to Aug. 2005. All of the patients were satisfied with the results. The survival rate of the grafted hairs were 98%. The appearance of the reconstructed hairline was quite natural without visible scar. Conclusion The above-mentioned technique could be a simple, safe and effective method for anterior hairline reconstruction.Read More
