Title: Comparison of behavioral and psychological symptoms between quetiapine and risperidone for treating vascular dementia
Abstract: Objective To compare curative effect and safety between quetiapine and risperidone for treating vascular dementia(VD). Methods 66 cases of patients with VD were equally divided into quetiapine group and risperidone group. Dementia conditions of patients were respectively assessed with mini-mental state examimation(MMSE)in 2,4,8 weeks. Curative effect and untoward effect were respectively evaluated with the behavioral pathology in alzheimers disease rathing scale(BEHAVE-AD) and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS ). Results Effective rates ofquetiapine and risperidone were respectively 88.6% and 86.7%,and untoward effect of the former was fewer than that of the latter. Conclusion Both quetiapine and risperidone can markedly ameliorate VD and BPSD,and safety of the former is higher than that of the latter.
