Title: A comparative study of Quetiapine and Risperidone in the treatment of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia
Abstract: Objective:To explore the efficacy and safety of Quetiapine and Risperidone to treat the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia(BPSD).Methods:a total of 60 patients with BPSD were randomly divided into study group with Quetiapine and control group with Risperidone for treatment of 12 weeks.30 treated with Quetiapine and 30 treated with Risperdone.Behavioral pathology in Alzheimer disease rating scale(Behave AD) were used.Patients' data were collected by the way of face-to-face questionnaire to patients in the 4th weekend,the 8th weekend and 12th weekend,meanwhile,the side effects were assessed with Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale(TESS).Results: after treatment the Behave AD scores in the both groups decreased significantly(all P0.01).The efficacious rate showed no significant difference in the groups(P0.05).Conclusions: Quetiapine and Risperidone have good efficacy in the treatment of BPSD and the two remedies in the fewer dose show fewer side effects with the high safety.
