Title: Comparative study of quetiapine in the treatment of patients with senile dementia accompanied with psychiatric symptoms
Abstract: Objective:To evaluate and compare the efficacy and adverse effects in the treatment of patients with senile dementia accompanied with psychiatric symptoms between quetiapine and risperidone. Method:76 patients with senile dementia were randomly divided into quetiapine group and risperidone group for 8 weeks.Behavioral pathology in Alzhimer's disease rating scale(BEHAVE-AD) was used to access the efficacy and treatment emergent symptoms scale(TESS) was used to evaluate the adverse effects. Results:Both quetiapine and risperidone provided progressive improvement in patients with senile dementia accompanied with psychiatric symptoms,with response rate 94.7% for quetiapine group and 94.9% for risperidone group and less adverse effects both. Conclusion:Quetiapine was effective and safe in the treatment of patients with senile dementia and was suitable for clinical use.
