Title: Expression and their clinical significance of uPA and integrin?4 in papillary thyroid cancer
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To investigate the expression and their clinical significance of uPA (urokinase type plasminogen activator) and integrinβ4 in papillary thyroid cancer. METHODS The levels of uPA and integrinβ4 were determined by Immunohistochemistry technique (S-P method) in 36 specimens from patients with papillary thyroid cancer, 30 specimens from benign thyroid tumor and normal thyroid tissues adjacent to benign thyroid tumor. RESULTS The levels of uPA and integrinβ4 in benign thyroid tumor were significantly higher than that in normal tissue adjacent to benign thyroid tumor (P0.05). The levels of uPA and integrinβ4 in tissue of papillary thyroid cancer were significantly higher than that in benign tumor tissue (P0.05). The expression levels were correlated to clinical stages of papillary thyroid cancer. The uPA and integrinβ4 levels in lymph node metastasis group was higher(P0.05) than that in no lymph node metastasis group. There was certain correlation between the level of uPA and integrinβ4 in papillary thyroid cancer. CONCLUSION Measuring levels of uPA and integrinβ4 in papillary thyroid cancer tissues may help to evaluate the extent of cancer invasion, lymph node metastasis and prognosis of papillary thyroid cancer.
