Title: Observation about the Clinical Efficacy of Intraocular Lens(IOL) Implantation and Phacoemulsification on High Myopia Patients with Cataract
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens(IOL) implantation on high myopia patients with cataract. Methods From March 2008 to October 2011,67 high myopia old patients(80 eyes) with cataract were selected in Wujin People's Hospital. The age range was from 40 to 86(mean 66.4) years. All subjects were done with a scleral tunnel incision.77 eyes were treated with phacoemulsification and folding or non-spherical IOL implantation through a 3.2mm incision,3 eyes were treated with phacoemulsification and hard polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA) IOL implantation through a 5.5mm incision. The diopter of IOL was from +0.00 D to +10.0D(mean 5.68D).The visual acuity one month after surgery was recorded and SPSS 14.0 software was used to analyze the database. Results All subjects had no serious complications after surgery, and 95.0% patients' visual acuity were evidently improved, only four patients' uncorrected visual acuity less than 0.1. Conclusions Phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation is a safe and effective therapeutic approach in high myopia patients with cataract.
