Title: Relationship between E-cadherin gene methylation and clinicopathological characteristics of colorectal cancer
Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between methylation in the promoter of the E-cadherin gene and clinicopathological characteristics of the colorectal cancer. Methods Nest methylation-specific PCR(MSP-UMP) was used to detect E-cadherin methylation of 100 pieces of colorectal cancer specimens, and analyze its relation with clinicopathological characteristics. Results In 100 sporadic colorectal cancer specimens,33% had detectable E-cadherin methylation, but no detectable methylation was found in all normal tissues. The positive rate of E-cadherin methylation in the patients with Dukes C and D was significantly higher than that in those with Dukes A and B((P)(0.05).)The positive rate of E-cadherin methylation in the patients with liver metastasis was obviously higher than in those without liver metastasis((P)(0.01).)There was no statistically significant difference in orther pathological characteristics between E-cadherin methylation positive group and negative group((P)(0.05).)Conclusion Methylation in the promoter of the E-cadherin gene was obviously related with lymph node, liver metastasis and Dukes stage.Methylation of E-cadherin gene may be one of the reasons of the increased invasion of the colorectal cancer.
