Title: Methylation of CDH13 gene in colorectal cancer and its clinical significance
Abstract: Objective To investigate the methylation status of H-cadherin(CDH13) gene in colorectal cancer(CRC) and its clinical significance. Methods Eighty-five CRC specimens and tumor-adjacent normal tissues were selected, and the methylation status of CDH13 gene in the promoter region was detected by manual microdissection combined with methylation-specific PCR.Results The methylation frequency of CDH13 in the CRC tissues was 31.8%(27/85),which was significantly higher than 9.4%(8/85) in the tumor-adjacent normal tissues(P0.01).The methylation of CDH13 gene in the CRC tissues was associated with the poor differentiation(P0.05) and tended to be predominant in the advanced stages and lymph metastasis. Moreover, the methylation level of CDH13 gene was correlated with adverse overall survival(OS)(P0.01) and was an independent prognostic factor for OS.Conclusion The methylation of CDH13 gene may be a new biomarker for predicting the prognosis of CRC.
