Title: Relationship Between Plasma Homocysteine,Serum Total Bilirubin and Carotid Atherosclerotic Plaques in Patients with Ischemic Stroke
Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between plasma homocysteine, serum total bilirubin level and carotid atherosclerotic plaques in patients with ischemic stroke. Methods 300 cases who had received ischemic stroke in the period from January to December in 2013 were recruited. The subjects were divided into two groups according to carotid artery plaque examined with colour doppler ultrasonography( 164 cases of carotid atherosclerotic plaque group). Results 1There was significant difference( P 0. 05) in plasma homocysteine between carotid atherosclerotic plaque group and control group. 2There was no significant difference( P = 0. 063) in serum total bilirubin levels between two groups. However, the formation rate of carotid atherosclerotic plaque showed decreasing trend with the serum total bilirubin level increasing. Conclusion There was relationship between homocysteine, serum total bilirubin and carotid atherosclerotic plaque. Higher serum total bilirubin level had certain protective effects on artery atherosclerotic plaque.
