Title: Relationship of serum homocysteine and carotid atherosclerosis
Abstract: Objective To study the relationship of serum homocysteine(Hcy) and carotid atherosclerosis. Methods 82 hospitalized cases with ischemic stroke by color Doppler ultrasound B,were divided into normal carotid artery, carotid artery intima-media thickening group, carotid artery atherosclerosis group, and serum homocysteine levels were examined and compared among three groups. Results Serum level of homocysteine(Hcy) group in carotid artery atherosclerosis group was significantly higher than that in the normal carotid artery and carotid artery intima-media thickening(IMT) group(P0.05);serum levels of homocysteine(Hcy) in carotid artery intima-media thickening group was significantly higher than that in the normal carotid artery(P0.05).Conclusion Serum homocysteine levels(Hcy) level and carotid artery atherosclerosis was positively related. The higher serum homocysteine(Hcy) levels is,the more severe stenosis the carotid atherosclerotic plaque is.
