Title: Analysis of correlation between plasma homocysteine and atherosclerosis in cerebral infarction
Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between plasma homocysteine and atherosclerosis in cerebral infarction. Methods Eighty-eight patients were chosen as the cerebral infarction group and other 40 healthy people as control group.According to the results of carotid Doppler ultrasonography, the cerebral infarction group was divided into two subgroups, cerebral infarction with carotid atherosclerotic plaque and cerebral infarction without plaque. And the controls were also divided into two subgroups, control with carotid atherosclerotic plaque and control without plaque. The levels of plasma homocysteine were measured and compared. Results The plasma level of homocysteine and the number of carotid atherosclerotic plaque were both significantly higher in the cerebral infarction group than those in control group(P0.05).The level of homocysteine was higher in the carotid atherosclerotic plaque group than that in group without plaque(P0.05).Conclusion Plasma homocysteine is closely related to atherosclerosis and cerebral infarction, and it may be one of the most important risk factors of carotid atherosclerotic.
