Title: Comparison of Depression Symptoms in Patients with Essential Tremor and Parkinson's Disease
Abstract: Objective:To investigate the similarities and differences of depression symptoms between essential tremor(ET) and Parkinson's disease(PD) patients, and analyze the incidence rate of depression symptoms in ET and its characteristics. Methods:Thirty two patients with ET and 122 patients with PD were evaluated with the Hamilton depression scale(HAMD).The incidence rate of depression symptoms in ET and severity category of depression was evaluated by HAMD scores.HAMD total scores, incidence rate of depression symptoms and distribution of patients endorsing individual HAMD items were compared between the two groups. Results:There was no significant difference in HAMD scores between ET group and PD group [(10.13±7.22) vs.(10.47±6.82),P0.05].The incidence rates of depression symptoms were 43.8% and 48.4% in ET group and PD group respectively, and there was no significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).There was no significant difference between the two groups in the distribution of patients endorsing individual HAMD items(P0.05).Conclusion:It is similar in both incidence rate of depression symptoms and clinical manifestations between ET and PD.Depression symptoms in ET are common,so clinicians should pay attention to it.
