Title: Analysis of factors related to recurrence of trigeminal neuralgia after microvascular decompression surgery
Abstract: Objective To investigate the factors related to relapse of trigeminal neuralgia after microvascular decompression surgery. Methods The clinical data of 168 trigeminal neuralgia patients undertaken microvascular decompression surgery were reviewed and analyzed. Results All patients were followed up for 1 to 15 years after surgery,17((10.11%)) cases recurred, including 8(8/45,(17.8%)) patients with gelatin sponge pad and 9(9/123,(7.3%)) patients with muscle pad in the microvascular decompression surgery. Conclusion Skillful surgical technique, appropriate operative approach, proper pad,and avoiding secondary injury and infection are important factors for preventing recurrence of trigeminal neuralgia after microvascular decompression surgery.
