Title: Analysis of clinical curative effect on trigeminal neuralgia by microvascular decompression
Abstract: Objective:To assess the short and long term curative effect of microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia. Methods:The medical records of 18 patients undergoing microvascular decompression of the trigeminal nerve via retrosigmoid approach were analyzed retrospectively. Results:There were 17 cases (94.4%) of vascular compression in the trigeminal root entry zone, including 14 cases of arterial compression and 3 cases of venous compression, and 1 case of arachnoid adhesion compression. In the short term postoperation,16 cases(88.9%) accomplished complete remission,2 cases partial remission, and no death occurred.During the follow-up of 2-5 years,15 cases (83.3%) maintained CR,2 cases received PR,and 1 case(5.6%) recurred,1 case(5.6%) had irreversible complication. Conclusion:Microvascular decompression aims directly at the origin of trigeminal neuralgia and has ideal clinical curative effect. Furthermore, it causes fewer lesions with lower rate of complications or recurrence and preserves neuro-function.
