Title: Application of hanging technique to microvascular decompression for idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (a report of 43 cases)
Abstract: Objective To study the application of hanging technique to microvascular decompression for idiopathic trigeminalneuralgia. Method Forty-three patients with idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia were treated by microvascular decompression in which theblood vessels responsible for the neuralgia were hung. Results The trigeminal neuralgia disappeared immediately after the surgery in allthe patients. The following up from 2 to 42 months showed that the trigeminal neuralgia did not recurred in all the patients. Thepostoperative complications including leakage of cerebrospinal fluid in 1 patient and facial numbness in 1 patient. These two patientswere cured on discharge from hospital. Conclusion The hanging technique in microvascular decompression can enhance the curativeeffect of the decompression on the idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia and decrease its recurrence.[
