Title: The Clinical Significance of Serum IL-18 in Children With Asthma
Abstract: Objective To explore the role of serum IL-18 in children with asthma. Methods The serum levels of IL-18,IL-4 and INF-γ were detected by ELISA in 30 asthma patients and 20 healthy controls. Results The levels of IL-18 and INF-γ in patients with acute asthma were significantly higher than healthy control group(IL-18: 202.61±72.30 vs 154.49±48.50 ng/L,P0.01;INF-γ: 64.36±25.72 vs 43.29±22.24ng/L,P0.01).Allergic asthmatic patients showed lower plasma IL-4 levels than normal controls(206.20±88.66 vs 228.38±81.79 ng/L ng/L),but the differences were not statistically significant(P0.05). Conclusion The serum IL-18 is high in patients and it suggests that IL-18 might play an important role in asthma pathogenesis.
