Title: Observations on Relationship between Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Essential Hypertension and Carotid Intima-media Thickness by Echocardiography
Abstract: Objective:To explore the relationship between left ventricular hypertrophy in essential hypertension and carotid intima-media thickness(IMT) by echocardiography.Methods:60 patients with essential hypertension were divided into two groups.Left ventricular hypertrophy 29 cases, normal left ventricle 31 cases. The conventional echo-Doppler parameters assessed included:left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVDd),interventricular septal end-diastolic thickness(IVST),left ventricular posterior wall thickness(LVPWT),left ventricular mass index(LVMT) was calculated. The same echocardiography assessed both carotid IMT.Results:The IMT were significant differences in left ventricular hypertrophy hypertension group compared with normal left ventricle group(P0.001).Conclusion:Carotid IMT is easy to estimate the target organ damage in patients with essential hypertension.
