Title: Experimental study on microvessel density in brain astrocytoma and its significance
Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between microvessel density (MVD), clinicophathological characteristics and the prognosis in brain astrocytoma. Methods To determine the generation level of microvessel in 52 cases brain astrocytoma with immunohistochemistry. Results MVD in brain astrocytoma tissues was higher (71.8±27.8) than that in normal brain tissues (25.8±6.2) (P 0.01). Brain astrocytoma with high grade (Ⅲ~Ⅳ) had higher MVD (81.7±26.9) than that with low grade (52.8±18.4) (P 0.01). MVD in patients with death group was higher than non-death group (P 0.01). Conclusions MVD reflects the state of angiogenesis in tumor, it is closely related with its tissular grade and MVD may be regarded as a prognostic factor in brain astrocytoma.
