Title: Application of the Built-up Rudder in the Improvement of Ship Manoeuvrability
Abstract: Because of the restrictions of different sea and waterway conditions and various requirements in operation, the main dimension of the ship varies greatly. In order to make the load as much as possible, block coefficient of the ship is always considered to be as big as possible. Therefore, the performance of ship, such as ship speed and manoeuvrability will be affected. So, effective measures should be introduced to improve the ship performance. This essay is based on the model test results of 35000DWT bulk carrier. In analysis, comparisons of manoeuvrability of relative vessels are adopted as well. After applying a built-up rudder to this kind of ships, the manoeuvrability can be improved obviously. Meanwhile, results of model tests and sea trials are also listed and compared as a reference for ship designers.
