Title: Expression and significance of p16 protein in colorectal cancer tissue
Abstract: AIM: To investigate the relationship between p 16 gene and the development and occurrence of colorectal cancer. METHODS:Using ABC immunohistochemistry methods, we investigated the expression of p 16 gene in 31 cases of colon cancer, 22 of rectal cancer and 28 of normal colorectal tissue. RESULTS:The positive staining rate was 75%(21/28) in normal colorectal tissue and 35.7%(19/53) in colorectal cancer( P 0.01). The expression of p 16 gene was reduced with the cancer′s malignant degree ( P 0.05). CONCLUSION:The mutation and loss of p 16 gene was closely related to the occurence and development of colorectal cancer ( r =-0.3383 P 0.05). p 16 gene plays an important role in the estimation of differential degree of cancer′s malignant and prognosis.
