Title: STUDIES ON THE MANOEUVRING PERFORMANCE DATABASE AND THE MANOEUVRABILITY STANDARDS
Abstract: Manoeuvrability standards are of vital importance to manoeuvring safety of ships. An attempt to construct a manoeuvring performance database is made and the manoeuvring performance levels to be defined by the standards are proposed in this report. The original database was developed about 10 years ago and now includes manoeuvring performance data of about 740 ships. The database is used to assess performance levels in directional stability, turning ability, stopping ability and initial turning ability with the view that vessels with extremely poor manoeuvring should be withdrawn from service.
