Abstract: This article discusses the development of Denver's metro system particularly through its future plans for expansion up to the year 2017. With a population of about 2.5 million, and another million projected between 2007 and 2017, Denver has experienced a great deal of traffic congestion that officials have been attempting to relieve through public rapid transit. In November 2006, the Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) will open its 19 mile long Southeast Corridor as part of its larger Transportation Expansion Project (T-REX). T-REX, which costs about $1.67 billion, is a result of local communities ensuring that transportation solutions are efficient, environmentally sound, and forward-looking with regard to the communities that they will serve. The article also gives information regarding some future RTD projects.
