Title: BUS SERVICES IN SCOTLAND. MONITORING BUS DEREGULATION - THE INITIAL FINDINGS
Abstract: Part A of this paper describes how deregulation has progressed up to and immediately after 26 October 1986 and illustrates developments by reference to all parts of Scotland. The following aspects are investigated: scale and pattern of services, competition, congestion, fares and concessionary fares, subsidy levels, demand and quality of service, innovation, and employment. Part B relates to deregulation specifically in Strathclyde region, which contains about 46% of Scotland's population. This part examines the policies and criteria for determining the subsidised network, the level of service and subsidy prior to deregulation, commercial registrations, tendered services, operation of services, ticketing and fares, concessionary fares, section 20 services, and effects on passengers.
