Title: INTEGRATION OF ITS FIELD DEVICES ISSUES AND RECOMMENDED PRACTICES
Abstract: This paper discusses issues relating to the integration of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) field devices and presents guidelines and recommended practices for achieving the objectives of ITS. Integration is a key theme for ITS deployment nationally. Integration of ITS field devices may have the potential for providing significantly increased traffic operations capabilities when compared to the capabilities of the devices operated individually. The Intelligent Transportation Infrastructure approach of the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) seeks to deploy individual components that are part of a larger This paper outlines four model deployment initiatives sponsored by the US DOT feature extensive integration efforts - both organizational and technological - to benefit travelers. Similarly, the National ITS Architecture effort is designed to foster the development of ITS systems in local areas that will work together to form the compatible national system.
